In October 2008 the WTC 911 Symphony will finally go into premiere, 7 years after the WTC incident. An inworld concert not to be missed.

Preclear Sorbet

Preclear Sorbet was born inworld on 12 july 2008. His RL name is George Philip Birney. He chose the name Preclear because of an earlier RL  experience related with studies of the mind. The name Sorbet was chosen because he likes huge icecreams.

Soon after Preclear Sorbet entered Second Life, he started shopping for MP3 technology. And so he met with Badwolf Bracken, the owner of SLevolution. The funny thing was that Preclear Sorbet already did have an MP3 player from SLevolution but had forgotten about it in his messy inventory.

As Preclear Sorbet and Badwolf Bracken were talking, it became clear to Preclear Sorbet that SLevolution did a lot more than just selling MP3 players. Both had a little walk in the large SLevolution facilities, where Preclear Sorbet was offered to publish his music, like with many other artists. And so Preclear Sorbet returned home not with a new MP3 player, but with a new musical adventure to start in Second Life.

An old dream of Preclear Sorbet was going to become true. To him, Second Life is also Real Life. He says: “The only difference between SL and RL is the physical interface, named ‘body’, in SL an avatar, in RL a body of flesh and blood. It is still the very same mind and spirit behind it.”

Preclear Sorbet never had any formal schooling in music in RL. He all did it by himself. He taught himself playing classical guitar, renaissance lute, a bit of violin, piano and synthesizer keyboard. He also learned composing music, just by reading countless musical scores of great composers, while listening to their works. His earlier works are inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach. Later on he developed his own musical signature.

Years ago, right after the World Trade Center went down, Preclear Sorbet’s real life was turned upside down completely. He lost all of his assets and several friends also due to the war in the Gulf Region that came after 911.

Yet Preclear Sorbet could find the impulse power to transform his feelings into a dramatic piece of music. It took him 9 months from writing the very first note up to the last echo of the final performed chord.

And that music Preclear Sorbet baptized the “WTC 911 Twin Tower Symphony”. A 4 part symphony, somewhat unusual, as symphonies normally consist of 3 parts. “The extra part is meant as a memorial”. He added:  “Which part was the extra part? In fact, they all are.”

Half October 2008  (precise date & time will be announced) the WTC 911 Twin Tower Symphony will go into premiere. Full rehearsal will be in week two of October.

Preclear Sorbet drew the following program:

- Sunset romantic classical guitar solo, during the time the audience is getting settled (about 6 minutes)

- Concert Appetizer (light music):
. Baroque suites, JS Bach style
… Prelude and Fugue nr 1 (about 6 minutes)
… Prelude and Fugue nr 2 (about 6 minutes)

- Main programme (dramatic music):
. World Trade Center 911 Twin Tower Symphony (about 57 minutes)
…  part-1 Airplane (14 mintues)
…  part-2 Twin Towers (16 minutes, with WTC 911 slide show during the music)
…  part-3 Ground Zero (8 minutes)
…  part-4 New York (19 minutes)

The slide show includes various shocking aerial photographs of the 11th day of September 2001. A day that never will be forgotten.

In no way this concert is meant to open a discussion about 9/11, but merely to honor all the victims.
